Volunteers’ Week

We want to celebrate Volunteer Week by highlighting what our volunteers get out of volunteering and letting people know there are lots of opportunities to come along and join us.

Most of all we want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers that make VASL what it is.  We will be holding a party in next couple of weeks to celebrate with them.

Colin:

“The VASL car scheme makes a huge difference to my life and I’ve been using it for over 8 years” said Colin  “The drivers are excellent and can’t do enough for you.  I get picked up every Wednesday and taken to the Leisure Centre for me to try and do physio to build up my muscles on my left hand side.  Without the service I’d be struggling to be able to get out at all – it’s fantastic”

David

“I’ve lived in Harborough for many, many years but worked away and I volunteer because I just wanted to put something back into Harborough and its people. I dedicate Wednesday’s as my driving day for VASL and do whatever jobs I can fit in.  I try and make the car journeys as pleasant as possible by getting them to their appointment in a safe and efficient way and back home again in a relaxed state.  Some people might be going to a hospital appointment and it isn’t always easy for them.  We share lots of stories and memories and have a good chat.”
