Volunteers’ Week

We want to celebrate Volunteer Week by highlighting what our volunteers get out of volunteering and letting people know there are lots of opportunities to come along and join us.

Most of all we want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers that make VASL what it is.  We will be holding a party in next couple of weeks to celebrate with them.

“The VASL car scheme makes a huge difference to my life and I’ve been using it for over 8 years” said Colin  “The drivers are excellent and can’t do enough for you.  I get picked up every Wednesday and taken to the Leisure Centre for me to try and do physio to build up my muscles on my left hand side.  Without the service I’d be struggling to be able to get out at all – it’s fantastic”

“I’ve lived in Harborough for many, many years but worked away and I volunteer because I just wanted to put something back into Harborough and its people. I dedicate Wednesday’s as my driving day for VASL and do whatever jobs I can fit in.  I try and make the car journeys as pleasant as possible by getting them to their appointment in a safe and efficient way and back home again in a relaxed state.  Some people might be going to a hospital appointment and it isn’t always easy for them.  We share lots of stories and memories and have a good chat.”

VASL Trustees Vacancies

TRUSTEES – VASL (Voluntary Action South Leicestershire)

Do you want to make a difference to your community?

Do you have some time to give to a local charity?

Do you have skills and experience that you can share with us?iu

VASL is a thriving charity based at Torch House near the Leisure Centre in Market Harborough. We provide a range of excellent services to the communities of Har-borough District – including social transport for those with mobility problems, Community Champions for isolated older people and groups for young carers. We also have a contract with Leicestershire County Council to provide Support for Carers; we support over 4,000 Carers across Leicestershire.

We are looking for new trustees to join our small, committed and friendly Board of Trustees/ Directors.

We particularly need new trustees with expertise and knowledge in Human Re-sources, Digital Marketing or Social Enterprise/ Trading. But, if you can offer other skills, we would like to hear from you.

We are committed to diversity and aim to ensure that the composition of the Board of Trustees reflects the community at large.

All potential trustees should be able to commit time to attend a full Board meeting every two months and an annual Strategic Planning event. Trustees are also encour-aged to join at least one sub-committee (currently Finance and HR) and participate in joint working groups with the staff.

These posts are unpaid but reasonable expenses will be paid.

Applicants will be asked to submit a CV and complete a short skills audit.
