Carers at the Curve

Carers from the VASL Harborough Carers Group enjoyed a backstage tour and afternoon tea at the Curve on Wednesday 25th July thanks to the Bowdens Charity who have kindly donated to the group for outings.

This gave the opportunity for a guided tour from JK

and Hermione to give an insight into what happens behind the scenes and the organisation involved from seeing how the stage is set up to a look in their costume departments and dressing rooms.  We were also given the opportunity to have a quick look in to rehearsals in progress.

There are two theatres in the curve, the larger one for bigger productions and will be showing the touring Les Miserables which sold out on the day of release and resulted in their system crashing due to demand for tickets.  The smaller theatre showcases more local productions and school productions.   The Curve is currently celebrating its 10th year anniversary and is a very impressive building designed by renowned architect Rafael Vinoly.  It is curved shape as the name suggests and has the design of an inside out theatre.  There is no backstage area so audiences get to enjoy the whole theatre experience including views of whats happening behind the scenes adding to the whole experience.

The group were impressed with the leg room available and also the option of having seating removed to accommodate wheelchairs.  There are also dementia friendly and autism friendly screenings and captions for those with hearing difficulties so a lot of thought has gone in to making productions as accessible as possible for all.

The afternoon was finished with an afternoon tea enjoyed by all.
