Young Carers visit iFLY, Milton Keynes

Photo 12-02-2018, 18 18 28

What a half term trip! Glamorously attired in a boiler suit, earplugs, goggles and helmet we were taken one by one into a huge vertical wind tunnel for 70 seconds of airborne action. It was the weirdest sensation, like hovering over a giant Dyson Airblade, but not “scary” as such. We’re sure this was partly due to our instructor who was superb. On our second go, we had the option of being spiralled to the top with the instructor, like a high-octane version of the scene where Charlie and Grandpa Joe steal Fizzy Lifting Drinks in the original “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. This was optional but about half of the group did it, including group leader Hannah. The kids complained they could hear her screaming through their earplugs…

It was an absolute rush and we were all still buzzing the next day!

Here I am in flight looking nothing short of graceful…

Young Carers Award

We’d like to thank Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons Charity Awards, for donating a marvelous £1000 to VASL’s Young Carers Activity Group.

Hannah Currington who runs the group went along to accept the cheque. “It really means a lot to us to get local support.  Young Carers have little time to be able to relax and do something just for themselves or have access to the type of activities that other young people take for granted.

Voluntary Action South Leicestershire

“This will allow us to do so much more” said Hannah. Other groups were also awarded donations – to find out more see:
