Carers’ Week 2024 Posted on Monday, 10 June 2024

If you look after a partner, relative or friend who has an illness, disability or is elderly and could not manage without your help, then you are a Carer.
You might have never thought of yourself in this way before.
We firmly believe that all carers deserve help and support.

These are some of the things which our Leicestershire Support for Carers Team can offer thanks to our funding from Leicestershire County Council.

We have a dedicated telephone advice and support line for carers 01858 468543.
Please do not hesitate to give us a ring with any queries related to your caring
role and let our experienced, friendly staff point you in the right direction.

Carers’ Guide
The booklet called A Guide for Carers, sits alongside our carers training videos available on YouTube (look for our channel, Support for Carers Leicestershire) It is designed as an overview of what you might experience during your caring journey, as well as a guide to both the practical and the emotional aspects of caring. From benefits to wills, arranging respite care to dealing with feelings of guilt and resentment, this comprehensive guide will be a useful resource for you.
Although much of the information given will be applicable nationwide, this booklet was designed for carers who are looking after an adult 18+ living in Leicestershire, and all phone numbers and information given relate to Leicestershire County residents.

Carers Groups
Our monthly Carers Support Groups are open to anyone looking after an adult 18+ who lives in the county of Leicestershire.
The groups are relaxed and informal, and guest speakers are often arranged, they last 90 minutes.
There is a group based in each Leicestershire District and two meet on zoom, one in the evening for Working Age Carers

Carers’ Passport
This is an ID card for carers who are caring for a loved one aged 18+.
Is recognised across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
It will aid easy recognition of carers in a variety of settings and enable access to services and support.
It’s available as a wallet sized card, downloadable onto your smartphone or with a lanyard if you would prefer.
Leicestershire Support for Carers now have coffee shops, cafes and Sports Centres on board, supporting the Carers Passport.  On production, they can receive anything from a free hot drink, swim, gym class to a discount on food and we are eager to get more places on board.  Our carers deserve to be valued and recognised.

Energy Advice for Carers
Our new, qualified Carers Energy Adviser can help with advice for Local Grants, Understanding Energy Bills & Heating Controls, Measures to Reduce Heat Loss, Energy Debt or any concerns you may have. You just need to be a carer living in the county of Leicestershire, and both you and the person you are caring for must be over 18.
