VASL Young Carers Group Posted on Wednesday, 17 August 2022

VASL has run the Harborough District Young Carers Group for several years.

During the last couple of years, we have been lucky enough to be supported in running the group, by another local charity Harborough Children’s and Young People’s Charity. (HCYC)

We are now delighted to announce that HCYC will take over the running of the Young Carers Group from VASL from the 1st September 2022. The service will continue to be funded by BBC Children in Need.

HCYC is a local children’s and young people’s charity and young carers will continue to have a safe place to meet fortnightly, run by qualified staff.

The young carers group is there for anyone aged 11 to 17 who has caring responsibilities in their life.
The group is an opportunity for young carers to meet, chill out, enjoy new hobbies and be themselves.

Olivia O’Brien, HCYC Charity Manager said
“We are delighted to be taking over the running of Harborough District Young Carers Group.  VASL has a great reputation, and we are pleased to be able to continue to provide a much-needed group in the Harborough District.  We will certainly not be on our own, as VASL have agreed to help the transition by providing volunteer drivers and escorts to get the Young Carers to and from the group. We remain a strong partnership and look forward to working together for many years to come.”

Maureen O’Malley, VASL Charity Manager added
“It hasn’t been an easy decision for VASL to let go of such an important group for young carers, however knowing that it is going to safe hands and widening the opportunities for young carers, we are very happy and will continue to support and promote the group in whatever way we can”
