VASL’s Wellness Day Posted on Thursday, 4 August 2022
We are grateful to have received funding from Carlton Hayes Mental Health Charity and Harborough Lions to improve the wellbeing of people within Harborough District. We used the Five Ways to Wellbeing model to enable volunteers and those receiving support through our Wellbeing Befriending Service and My Mind Matters project to connect with others, to learn something new, to be active, to take notice and to give.
Portia, a craft facilitator, provided crafting activities, which included making a hedgehog out of a paperback book and decorating a tealight holder. Andy, a Nutrition and Wellbeing Coach, delivered an interactive, informative session around ways to eat well on a budget, accessible exercises, and realistic changes we can make to our lifestyle. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch together and getting to know each other better.
A big thank you too to the staff and facilitators that supported with the planning of the event and being there on the day to ensure the events ran smoothly and to Harborough Community Church for hosting the day.
People explained that they had noticed a positive shift in their mood as the day went on people said they felt less anxious, more relaxed and really enjoyed focusing on the crafts and being in the moment.
Some people said they`d forgotten how therapeutic creating something is and everyone was impressed with their creations
