Social Car Scheme

Social Care Scheme

We provide transport for elderly, disabled or rurally isolated people who can’t use public transport, or where none exists – through our Car Scheme.

If you don’t have a car of your own or have difficulty using public transport, the scheme could help you get to places such as the health centre, dentist, hairdressers, leisure centre or somewhere you’d like to visit.

This is Joyce, who has been using our scheme for a while.

How the scheme works

We have a bank of volunteer drivers who use their own cars for these journeys so please give us at least 5 working days notice before you’d like to travel and we’ll do our best to arrange it. We can’t always guarantee a volunteer will be available so the more notice you give us the better (up to 3 weeks in advance).

If you’d like to bring an escort or have any special equipment such as a folding walking frame or wheelchair, please let us know when you book your journey.

We’ll ask you for a contribution towards your driver’s fuel expenses and we’ll email the charge for your journey when you book, so you’ll know exactly how much you’ll need to pay. We ask that you put the money into an envelope with your name and the date of your journey on it, which you can hand to your driver at the end of the journey.  This is Roy, who also uses the car scheme.  Below the video is some more info you will find useful.

In order to access our Social Car Scheme you must complete and return our   Client registration form with a £5 registration fee please.

(please note it will download straight to your computer and won’t open in a new window).

Due to the high demand for the service we have a waiting list but you are welcome to ask us to add your name, we will then contact you when you are at the top of the list.
