Young Carers Useful Links

A Young Carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 who is helping to care for someone at home. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a parent – some Young Carers find themselves caring for a sibling, grandparent or other family member.

There are many reasons you may become a Young Carer, including supporting someone with long-term illness, mental health difficulties, substance misuse, sensory issues or a physical disability. Young Carers are hugely under-reported in the UK, with many not realising they’re doing anything out of the ordinary.

With effect from 1st September 2022 Harborough Children’s and Young People’s Charity. (HCYC) have take over the running of the Young Carers Group from VASL. The service will continue to be funded by BBC Children in Need

We have worked with HCYC for the last couple of years to provide the service and know that HCYC, a local children’s and young people’s charity, will continue to offer a safe place for young carers to meet fortnightly, run by qualified staff. The young carers group is there for anyone aged 11 to 17 from Harborough District who has caring responsibilities in their life. The group is an opportunity for Young Carers to meet, chill out, enjoy new hobbies and be themselves.
