VASL was honoured to be a finalist for the County Charity of the Year at the VAL awards, and even more delighted when we received the award.
There was a moment when Julia and the staff stared at each other, and then said ’Did they say VASL?’
We are aware of the quality of the work which all of the finalists do, and to have received the award is a tribute to the volunteers, funders and staff who make VASL the very special charity that we are. We support carers, lonely older people, those with a poor sense of wellbeing and those who can’t access public transport for medical appointments. This year we have also started a project to give energy advice to carers and another to support the carers of people with dementia. We pride ourselves on being a local charity which responds to the needs of our communities.
We were delighted to have won County Charity of the Year and that VASL has been recognised for the amazing work our projects do and the difference it makes to so many. The Awards hosted by Voluntary Action Leicestershire, brought together charities, volunteers and businesses to celebrate the achievements that happen thanks to the hard work and dedication of the community. It was an inspiring evening. This award recognises every member of staff, Trustee and Volunteer who without, VASL would not be able to do what we do, and I am so proud. Kath Allen, one of our digital volunteers was a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year category which recognised the work which she has undertaken developing training on the NHS App for our volunteers. This enables us to that register older people and encourage them to use the App, particularly for repeat prescriptions.
