REDUCING LONELINESS ACROSS HARBOROUGH DISTRICT
Warm companionship, local connections, and a community that cares.
Anyone can experience loneliness, but no one has to go through it alone. The Community Champions project is a completely free service, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, dedicated to reducing isolation and bringing joy back to people aged 60 and over who live independently across the Harborough District.
Supported by our wonderful team of fully vetted and trained volunteers, we match people based on shared interests and life experiences. Whether it is a regular home visit, a friendly phone call, or gaining the confidence to step out to a local café, we are here to offer a listening ear, a bit of humour, and a trusted connection.

HOW WE BUILD COMMUNITY
Befriending & Social Connections
Our core focus is pairing you with a friendly, dedicated volunteer who contacts you on a regular basis to provide consistent social connection.
- Personalised Matches: We take time to find out what you enjoy—whether it’s football, history, or crafts—so that your volunteer feels like a true friend.
- Flexible Options: Depending on what you prefer, matches can meet up in the comfort of your home, chat over the telephone, or head out together to a local café or garden centre.
We host a brilliant variety of monthly, volunteer-led groups across the Harborough District to help you extend your local social network in a safe environment.
- Community Gatherings: A private monthly meet-up for project members to enjoy tea, cake, and fascinating talks from local organisations.
- Beanies Coffee Club: Meets monthly in Lutterworth for casual social chats.
- Safari Lunch Club: Meets monthly in Market Harborough to try out different local cafés together.
- Special Interest & Well-Come Groups: Hosted monthly in Market Harborough and Kibworth for relaxed discussions.
Note: Dates and times for all clubs are published regularly in our project newsletters.
Loneliness can affect anyone, and we believe everyone should be part of the solution. We welcome people from all backgrounds as volunteers, clients, and staff.
- Our Commitment: We actively ensure our services are fully accessible and respect everyone regardless of age, disability, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
- Loneliness Research: We actively participate in national research, including working alongside Sheffield University to understand how loneliness affects Black and Minority Ethnic individuals, ensuring our project remains forward-thinking and deeply inclusive.
