About the Event

Escape the daily routine and connect with nature on a wonderful family canoeing day! Join the Canal & River Trust for a family wellbeing paddle session and enjoy the beautiful waterways. This relaxed, guided session is a fantastic opportunity to step out into the fresh air, learn a few basic paddling skills, and view our stunning local canals from a completely new perspective. It’s all about slowing down, spending quality time together, and enjoying the calming benefits of being by the water.

Target Audience

This session is specially designed for families looking for a fun, active, and peaceful outdoor activity to enjoy together. No prior canoeing or paddling experience is needed at all! Whether you are complete beginners wanting to try something new, or simply want to introduce your children to the local wildlife and waterways, you will find a safe, supportive, and incredibly friendly environment.

Location & Accessibility

  • Venue: Kilby Bridge, Wigston.
  • Accessibility: Canoeing is an outdoor water activity that requires a basic level of physical mobility to step in and out of the boats. However, the Canal & River Trust team are highly experienced in welcoming people of various abilities.
  • Facilities & Safety: All necessary safety equipment, including correctly fitted buoyancy aids, will be provided on-site. If any members of your family have specific physical or accessibility needs, please discuss them with the organiser when booking so they can ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Important Information

Booking is Essential: Places on the water are strictly limited to ensure safety and quality instruction. To book your family's spot, please contact Sean Payne directly on 07795 057198 or email sean.payne@canalrivertrust.org.uk.

What to Wear: We highly recommend wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear that you don't mind getting a little bit damp. It’s always a good idea to bring a spare change of clothes and a towel just in case!

Weather Dependability: Outdoor water sessions are subject to local weather and water conditions. Please keep an eye on your phone or inbox as the date approaches in case the organisers need to update you on any scheduling changes.
