World Mental Health Day

10th October is marked around the world as Mental Health Day, this year’s theme is Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.
At VASL we offer support to people in Harborough District who want to make small but significant changes to improve their wellbeing. Our Wellbeing Befriending Scheme volunteers will contact you each week to see how you are, to find out what support you might need and help you to set achievable goals that are meaningful to you. Initially the service was to help people to overcome their anxiety about the end of lockdown and concerns about re-joining the demands of the world. However, the need has changed over time and people have all sorts of reasons for wanting to make a change but would appreciate support to do it.

Our Community Champions project and Support for Carers telephone befrienders, all work to reduce loneliness which has a detrimental effect on people’s mental health. We are delighted at Community Gatherings when we see people who were very anxious about coming along, become the people who welcome others to the group, listening, laughing and sharing their stories. Having someone that you can talk to in confidence makes the world of difference to us all, not just carers and older people.

In Harborough District Life Links provides a wellness and mental health recovery service tailored to meet your needs.
Our information, advice and navigation services can help you find community and digital resources that will help you to achieve your recovery outcomes, make your independence more sustainable and support you in developing your own support networks. Our community recovery support is available to you as an individual or as part of a wider group and can be provided at a community venue local to you.
The support we offer focuses on your strengths, needs and future aspirations.”
