Volunteers to help with Young Carers transport

The Young Carers group formerly run by VASL and now by HCYC, provides a place for young carers to meet and to share experiences away from the pressure of caring for parents or siblings.

VASL still provides the transport to take young people from across the Harborough District to the group which meets at The Cube in Market Harborough every fortnight in school terms.

We are looking for both a driver and a chaperone who will pick up the young people, take them to the Tuesday evening group for 6.30pm and at 8.30pm return them home.
You would not be expected to stay on site while the group takes place.

You will receive some training, the driver will get expenses of 50p per mile and for both roles you will need to have a clear DBS check for working with young people.

You will be helping some young people to have a normal evening where they can be young without the responsibilities of their caring role.

Even if this isn’t something that you want to do, perhaps you know a friend who would be able to chat with the young people or to drive their own car.

This might suit people who work in the daytime but would like an opportunity to volunteer, but there isn’t an upper age limit.

If evening driving isn’t ‘your thing’ we are also keen to recruit drivers to take people to medical appointments during the day.

Please ring Lisa to find out more on 01858 439 260 to find out more about it or email Lisa LJones@vasl.org.uk
