Help with NHS App Summer 2025

Our digital volunteers are ready to help older people in Harborough District to register with the NHS App on their smartphone or tablet. You can use it to order repeat prescriptions, to check results of tests, look at your medical history and make some types of appointment.

We know that a lot of our people find the app straightforward to use, but setting it up can be tricky, so our volunteers are offering sessions where we will help you to register and show you the basics.

Ring 01858 439262 or email champions@vasl.org.uk to book an appointment, see list of sessions below which we will add to.

We are aware that different surgeries have introduced alternative ways to contact the surgery eg South Leicestershire Medical Group have Rapid Health Appointment Booking System and MH & HB practice is using WhatsApp, we are happy to help with these other service. The NHS app is still useful for results, repeat prescriptions and medical history.

You will need to have an email address, we can create one for you if you don’t have one.
The system will send an email to that address so you need to be able to check your emails on your phone or laptop during the session.

Is your smartphone registered with your GP surgery? If you receive texts from them, you are, if not please let the surgery know your number so they can update your record.

Are you already registered with your Surgery’s website? If so please bring along your password.

If you haven’t registered with the surgery website before:

Please bring your NHS Number with you. This is a 10 digit number, like 485 777 3456 you can find it on your prescription.
and
You will need to bring photo ID – a passport or Driving licence click link to find other items which are accepted. If you don’t have your NHS number but you do have photo ID this isn’t a problem.

If your phone isn’t registered with the surgery or you don’t have photo ID
You will need to contact your surgery and ask to be registered for online services.
They will give you three pieces of information which you will need to bring along.

These are the sessions where help is available, you need to book into most of them at the number given. It is useful for us to check before you travel to a session that you have the information you will need.
Ring 01858 439262 or email champions@vasl.org.uk to book an appointment.
